"The 80-Yard Run"
Monologue :: One Hour
Series: WBAI New York, 1978
#1 Aired
The frightening boxing triangle of Emile Griffith, Luis Rodriguez, and Hurricane Carter as observed by Joe and his friend, Peter. The art of bullfighting is discussed and Joe's departs for the University of Iowa, "the Athens of the Midwest" with its cornfields and football mania. Joe, standing at an overcrowded silent film festival, is accosted pleasantly by a woman who presses her breasts into his back. He passionately gropes her in the dark, but his inability to turn around and face her when the lights come up (and she disappears) leads him into a drunken football game and his 80 yard dash into a herd of oncoming bulls.
Music: Grover Washington, Jr., "Hydra" from "Feels So Good"
Comment: Joe's first show
