Part four in our series on addiction addresses the rise in prescription drug abuse among Native Americans. The Centers For Disease Control reports higher rates of prescription drug abuse among Natives. What are the reasons for the rise of this type of abuse? Is it a view of prescription drugs as a “safe” drug, or easier access, or socioeconomic factors? How are Native communities tackling this with prevention programs and treatment?
