This week we have Jason Alpert and Grace Sparague of the California Aggie along with Trevor Kuss of the Sports Department trying to figure out who is going to move on to Conference championship weekend.
Jason’s Picks:
So I went 1-3 on my picks last week (Packers? Jets?? Seahawks????????) So this week I will put the faith of my picks in the Stevie Johnson's main man; God. SO to make my picks, I will flip a coin. Heads home team wins. Tails, visitor wins. The good thing about this weekend's slate of games, all four of them could be coin flips.
I will follow the following format when it comes to explanations:
(Player) will go off against the (adjective) (team) defense. Expect (losing team's player) to struggle to gain yards. The (winner) may or may not make the Super Bowl. If they do (player) will need to step it up.
Seahawks@Bears: Bears. (Devin Hester) will go off against the (overachieving) (Seahawk) defense. Expect (Marshawn Lynch) to struggle to gain yards. The (Bears) may or may not make the Super Bowl. If they do, (Jay Cutler) will need to step it up.
Jets@Patriots: Patriots. (Tom Brady) will go off against the (strong) (Jet's) defense. Expect (Mark Sanchez) to struggle to gain yards. The (Patriots) may or may not make the Super Bowl. If they do, (Wes Welker) will need to step it up.
Packers@Falcons: Packers. (Aaron Rodgers) will go off against the (fast) (Falcon's) defense. Expect (Matt Ryan) to struggle to gain yards. The (Packers) may or may not make the Super Bowl. If they do, (Clay Matthews) will need to step it up.
Ravens@Steelers: Steelers. (Ben Roethlisberger) will go off against the (experienced) (Raven's) defense. Expect (Ray Rice) to struggle to gain yards. The (Steelers) may or may not make the Super Bowl. If they do, (James Harrison) will need to step it up.
Grace’s Picks:
Seahawks @ Bears: Seahawks. Look out for Marshawn Lynch. He's got the potential to cause an earthquake -- even in Chicago.
Packers @ Falcons: Packers. To be a contrarian, I picked the Packers to win it all on the KDVS Sportscast last week, so I feel the need to stick to my pick. Let's just hope James Starks can have a similar outing to the one he had on Sunday.
Ravens @ Steelers: Steelers. With Roethlisberger, the Ravens's chances in Pittsburgh are slim to none this time.
Jets @ Patriots: Patriots. I'm sure the Tom Brady-Antonio Cromartie-Rex Ryan trash-talk to play a bigger role in Sunday's game than the Jets like to admit.
Trevor’s Picks:
Seahawks @ Bears: Da Bears. I have never been a fan of a Mike Martz lead offense, but I just don’t think the Seahawks have any more magic left in the tank. I also think Soldier field is not as easy to play in during the playoffs as it was for the Seahawks trip to Chicago during the regular season.
Packers @ Falcons: Falcons. 4 words: Matty Ice at home
Ravens @ Steelers: Ravens. Ben Rothlisberger tends to not lose to the Ravens, in fact he hasn’t lost to them in the last 6 times he’s faced the Maryland opponent. With that said, the Ravens are my preseason Superbowl pick so I’m sticking with them until they prove me wrong.
Jets @ Patriots: Patriots. Tom Brady only has a .500 winning percentage over the last 8 playoff games. Despite that I think the Patriots will not only beat the Jets but that it could very well turn into a rout.
