O:RMF is KDVS's chillest funnest thing of the year, completely non-profit, our very own staple festival. We don't get any of this money, all the funds from ticket sales go directly to bands and the venue. It's awesome and really fun and hilarious and in the beautiful subtown of Plainfield between Davis and Woodland. We will have shuttles and bike runs back and forth from the venue to Davis all day. They have bomb-ass food and helluv beer (and they even sell cigarettes) and it's just really the most feel-good time ever.

Bikes leave at 1pm // 430pm from Delta of Venus (122 B St.)
Shuttle Times TBA

/// KDVS 2012 FUNDRAISER APRIL 23 - 29TH!!!! ///

KDVS 90.3FM, your beacon in the sea of sound, will be kicking off its annual fundraiser THIS SUNDAY, April 22nd at midnight and ending the following Sunday, April 29th at midnight.

This year's annual fundraiser celebrates the ongoing effort to keep our little station shining through and beyond the uncertain and tumultuous sea of media conglomeration and commercial programming saturation. Ultimately, we like what we do, and we hope, you the listener, like it as well!

Our goal this year is to raise $64,000, and we can do it with your help. Support freeform community radio by making a pledge, as every little bit keeps turntables spinning. In return, there are tons of of great premiums available for your perusal, as well as the intangible on-air antics of our dedicated DJs, which is just a little thank you from the volunteers here at KDVS for helping us keep the lights on for another year.

Check out our fundraiser site at fundraiser.kdvs.org!

Thanks for your support!

Help KDVS Win Soundtap Madness!

KDVS has survived controversy, strife, and a bunch of Hawaiians to make it to Round 4, "The Great 8 [radio stations]" in Soundtap's March Madness. We're barely behind 'the core' based out of Rutgers University, and we need your help to gather more listening hours by midnight, thursday, March 28th (aka tomorrow night). Their top three artists are just mainstream controlled 'underground' acts; The Black Keys, The Shins and Gotye. Let's show them how radio is meant to be- freeform! Support KDVS by going to soundap.com, signing up for a free account, and listen to KDVS via their site as much as you want! We're only a measly ten hours away!

KDViationS/fundraiser planning meeting tomorrow 2/23

Due to the Jolie Holland show and general time conflicts, we've moved the meeting to this thursday at 7pm. Since I have my radio show from 8pm until 10pm, you're welcome to drop by and talk to me about any KDViationS ideas you have if you can't make the main meeting at 7pm. We're looking for fundraiser themes and/or ideas and they would be rewarded by a super secret prize!

thanks,

UC Davis occupiers mobilize, ban UC administration from entering Cross Cultural Center

by Ramon Solis

Davis – Approximately 50 protestors have reoccupied the former Cross CulturalCenter January 24 at the University of California, Davis. For now, this is where the UCD Occupy movement is headquartered.

Various proposals were passed at considerable speed, reflective either of the fact
that many of the protestors who were present have been seasoned General Assembly
participants or that the movement has been slow to attract newer members who would
not be familiar with the process.

One such proposal was to bar police, corporate media, the Freedom of Expression
team, and members of the UC administration, including Chancellor Katehi and campus
mediators, from entering the occupied building. “What [the Freedom of Expression
Team] are essentially are snitches for the administration,” said one protestor during this
week’s General Assembly.

“Allowing UC administration into our space would be predicated on the idea
that there is anything to negotiate, which is false,” said Natalia Kresich, occupier and

Ballot initiative seeks fundamental changes in affording state higher education

Grassroots ballot initiative set to make California colleges free

by Ramon Solis

Higher education in California just might be easier to reach. A group of high school students from two Oakland high schools have started a ballot initiative to make undergraduate tuition free at the University of California and the California State University. To qualify, undergraduate students must maintain at least a 2.7 GPA or commit 70 hours of community service.

The initiative would increase taxes on those making $250,000 or more from 9.3 to 10 percent. Taxes on those making over $500,000 would also increase from 9.3 to 11 percent.
